Vol. 113 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dún Laoghaire Pier.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, before the emergency, consultations took place between British Railways, the Office of Public Works and Córas Iompair Éireann for the improvement of Dún Laoghaire pier and the cross-Channel services; whether any decisions were reached; and, if so, when they will be put into effect.

Discussions took place in 1938 as a result of which it was arranged to have plans prepared for the improvement of the pier at Dún Laoghaire. Plans were subsequently prepared but the matter was not pursued because of the supply and other difficulties which arose during the emergency.

Did not the discussions in connection with the improvement of cross-Channel services include the resumption of cargo traffic between England and Ireland?

I understand that the whole matter was brought under consideration.
