Vol. 113 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Gaeltacht Housing.

asked the Minister for Lands if it has been decided to increase the amount of the grants payable under the Gaeltacht Housing Acts.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is now in a position to indicate when proposals for legislation will be introduced to amend the Housing Gaeltacht Acts so that housing grants at preferential rates will be payable in respect of houses built in Gaeltacht areas, as was the case prior to the passing of the Housing (Amendment) Act, 1948.

asked the Minister for Lands if he intends introducing proposals for legislation to provide increased grants for housing in the Gaeltacht; and, if so, if he will state the date of introduction of such proposals.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take together Questions Nos. 6, 7 and 8.

I propose to introduce amending legislation at an early date to provide for increases in the amounts of the grants payable and to continue the preferential rates of grants formerly available in respect of houses erected under those Acts in Gaeltacht areas.

Would the Minister indicate when that early date is likely to be?

Probably before the Dáil adjourns for the Christmas Recess.

Is the Minister aware that, when replying to the debate on the Estimate for Gaeltacht Services about six months ago, he gave the House the impression that the position would be rectified at a very early date? That was six months ago.

I am glad to notice that Fianna Fáil is getting up speed, even in opposition.

That is more than can be said for the Land Commission.
