Vol. 113 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Report on Irish Agriculture.

asked the Minister for Agriculture (a) if he has received the report of Mr. Holmes on the present condition of Irish agriculture and the possibility of expanding production in the future; (b) when the report was received; (c) if it is proposed to publish the report, and (d) whether interested Deputies may apply for and obtain a copy of the report in question.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if the report of Mr. Holmes, who investigated the condition of Irish grasslands, has been submitted to his Department; if it will be made public; and, if so, when.

I propose with your permission, a Chinn Chomhairle, to take Questions Nos. 40 and 41 together.

The report of Mr. G.A. Holmes on the present state and methods for improvement of Irish grasslands was received by my Department on the 20th September, 1948. The question of the publication of this report is under consideration, but it will not be available for general circulation until after the New Year.

Will the Minister say if the report will be made available for Deputies who are interested in this and who are anxious to get copies of it?

The position at present is that the report is being stencilled. It is a very compendious document. It will be submitted to the Government, and I take it as soon as the Government have dealt with it, it will be readily available for members of the House, and at the earliest possible moment will be generally available.
