Vol. 113 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rents of Teacher's Houses.

asked the Minister for Education whether he is aware, that apart from the official teachers' residences built by the Office of Public Works and for which no rent or only a nominal rent is paid, there are residences built for teachers by local committees and other bodies for which high rents are charged; and, if so, whether he would consider paying the official rent allowance to teachers occupying residences in the latter category.

This matter has been fully considered. It is not possible to pay a rent allowance in the case of any teacher for whom there is available a teacher's residence whether provided by means of State grant or State loan or from local sources.
