asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the names of firms and individuals not in the fruit business during the period 1938-40 to whom allocations of dried fruit have been made by his Department, the dates the allocations were made and the dates on which the said firms and individuals first engaged in the business of importing dried fruit either direct or through an agent.

At various dates since the 29th November, 1946, 70 firms and individuals have been admitted to participate in the allocations of dried fruit, and in each case the date of allocation was the first date of entry to the business. I do not consider it desirable to announce publicly the names of the firms and individuals concerned.
