Vol. 113 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Soldiers' and Sailors' Land Trust Cottages.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state what steps, if any, the Government propose to take so as to ensure that the families of the present occupiers of cottages built by the Soldiers' and Sailors' Land Trust in Counties Dublin and Wicklow and elsewhere will be given security of tenure.

The general question of the relations between the Irish Sailors' and Soldiers' Land Trust and tenants of that body is at present under consideration. The aspect of the matter raised by the Deputy is not one on which I could comment at this stage.

Is the Minister in a position to state whether these tenants will be made aware of the decision at an early date so that they can have some hope that there will be in the future security of tenure for them? At the present time they have not got any such guarantee whatsoever.

Mr. Murphy

I am aware of the difficulties in connection with this matter. It is a matter that is bristling with difficulties and has been so for a number of years. I am anxious to arrange, if I possibly can, to get in some representative way the views of the tenants concerned. I think that would be a very useful step for a beginning.
