Vol. 113 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Erection of County Cork National School.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state the reason for the delay in erecting a new national school at Araglen, Kilworth, County Cork, and when the erection of the school will commence.

The necessary preliminary steps in this case are nearing completion, but certain arrangements have still to be made as regards the production of evidence of title to the site for the new school before a grant can be sanctioned from State funds. I am unable to state with certainty when the erection of the new building will be commenced, but I can assure the Deputy that every effort is being made, and will continue to be made, to expedite matters.

Will the Minister say if the building of national schools is being held up by the delay in issuing building licences?

Up to a couple of months ago there were some national schools whose building was held up through lack of building licences, but at the present time neither the building nor the necessary reconstruction or repair of any national school is being held up through lack of a building licence. There is priority of such a nature for national schools for reconstruction and for necessary repairs and improvements that no work that is ready for going ahead is at the present moment being held up—or will be held up—for want of a building licence.
