Vol. 114 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Live-Stock Losses.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if the officers of his Department have yet completed their investigations into the losses of live stock arising from fluke and kindred diseases in West Clare; and, if so, what remedial measures he proposes to take in order to prevent a recurrence of such losses.

These investigations were made last autumn and the necessary remedial measures were taken immediately, with very satisfactory results.

In regard to measures to prevent recurrence of such losses information on the preventive medication of live stock, the keeping of ducks to control the watersnail, the treatment of wet patches of land with 1 in 1,000 mixtures of sand and bluestone is being disseminated in the area, and a research project for the further control of limnea truncatula—the vector snail of the liver fluke—is being developed by my Department.
