Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Raising of Insurance Limit.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state the number of persons who became insurable under the relevant Acts as a result of the limit of insurability being raised to £500 per annum for the years 1947 and 1948, expressed either as the average number employed every year or, if not available, the number of new entrants into the National Health Insurance Scheme.

The number of persons who became insurable on the 7th April, 1947, under the National Health Insurance and Widows' and Orphans' Pensions Acts as a result of the raising of the remuneration limit for insurance to £500 per annum was as follows:—

Persons insurable under both the National Health Insurance and Widows' and Orphans' Pensions Acts, 11,500; persons insurable under the Widows' and Orphans' Pensions Acts only, 9,600.

The number of persons who became insurable on the 4th October, 1948, under the Unemployment Insurance Acts as a result of the raising of the remuneration limit for insurance to £500 per annum was 11,300.
