Vol. 114 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Roscommon Lands and Afforestation.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state in connection with the Crofton estate, Mote Park, Roscommon (a) what portion of this estate has been acquired by the Land Commission; and (b) in view of the proposed increased drive towards afforestation whether he will consider acquiring the remainder of this estate for planting purposes.

An area of 732 acres on this estate was purchased by the Land Commission in 1947. Of this area about 500 acres are earmarked for sale to the forestry division.

In March, 1948, further proceedings were instituted for the acquisition of the balance of the estate. Objections were lodged and were disallowed in respect of an area of 209 acres for which proceedings are being continued, and judgment was reserved in respect of the remainder of the lands containing 707 acres. It is not intended that any part of the lands in these latter proceedings should be allotted to the forestry division.
