Vol. 114 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Republic of Ireland Act.

asked the Minister for Defence if he proposes to celebrate the coming into force of the Republic of Ireland Act, 1948, with military parades, and, if so, the centres at which such parades will be held; further, if he proposes to call up the First Line Reserve to take part in such parades and to arrange parades of the F.C.A. at centres in their respective battalion areas.

The Government has approved in principle of celebrations to mark the coming into operation of the Republic of Ireland Act, 1948, but the details have not yet been decided.

Military parades in which units of the F.C.A. will participate will be held in Dublin, Cork and Athlone on 18th April.

Parades of the F.C.A. will be held in other centres where there are units.

The First Line Reserve is not being called up specially to participate in these parades.

Will the Minister say whether a special place of honour will be kept for king's counsellors in this parade?

There are large institutions in this country for people like the Deputy—institutions such as Grangegorman.

Will the Minister give an assurance to the Dáil that Deputy Dillon, the Minister for Agriculture, will take part in these parades?

Will the Minister say if 8th December would be a suitable date?
