Vol. 114 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Employers' Mutual Insurance Association.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce (1) if any decision has been communicated to his Department by the liquidator as to the assets of the Irish Employers' Mutual Insurance Association; (2) if he is aware that, in view of the fact that liquidation proceedings commenced in 1938, there is every danger that any assets then held by the company will be dissipated in liquidation costs; (3) if he will take steps to expedite a decision in this case so that the claims of employers and employed may be met.

In 1938, the High Court appointed an official liquidator for the purpose of conducting the proceedings in winding up the Irish Employers' Mutual Insurance Association, Limited. The liquidator is responsible to the court for the discharge of his duty. The proceedings are still before the court and I have no function or responsibility in the matter.

I did not put down the question merely to get the same reply that I got in May last. Surely somebody must have some power in this matter.

If the Minister has no responsibility in the matter he may not be questioned.

As I say in the question, the entire assets of this company are going to be dissipated in liquidation costs.

The Minister has no responsibility in the matter.
