I move:—
That a supplementary sum not exceeding £10 be granted to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending 31st March, 1949, for such of the Salaries and Expenses of the Supreme Court and High Court of Justice as are not charged on the Central Fund (No. 27 of 1926, No. 48 of 1936 and No. 25 of 1945).
The sum is arrived at as follows: the Estimate under sub-head B is increased by £20 owing to the original Estimate being inadequate to provide the renewal of cleaners' overall which cost £15 12s. 0d. for 26 cleaners and also for laundry charges which have increased. The increase under sub-head C is required mainly to meet the rise in telephonist's pay.
A new sub-head FF is added to the Vote to provide £948 for the purchase of law books for the Judges' Library in the Four Courts. The gross total of the additional sum under the three sub-heads is £993. This sum is reduced by estimated savings on sub-head A of £713 and by an estimated increase of Appropriations-in-Aid by means of bankruptcy percentages of £270, which makes a total of £983, leaving the sum required £10.
