Vol. 114 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Use of Marshall Aid Funds.

asked the Minister for Finance if he can state the amount of dollars that have been lent to this country by the American Government under the Marshall Aid programme and the manner in which this money has been utilised by the Government.

Under the Loan Agreement, dated 28th October, 1948, between the Minister for Finance and the Export/Import Bank, Washington, which was presented to both Houses of the Oireachtas, the Export/Import Bank established in favour of Ireland a line of credit not exceeding $60,000,000 to assist Ireland in financing the acquisition of such commodities and services as shall, from time to time, be approved by the United States Administrator for Economic Co-operation. The line of credit is being utilised to finance necessary imports from the dollar area.
