Vol. 114 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Land Division.

asked the Minister for Lands if, in view of the great demand for land division in County Dublin, he will give an assurance that any holdings which may be allotted in the future in this area by the Land Commission will be made available to residents of County Dublin.

The assurance the Deputy requests is one which could not be given in regard to any particular area and its residents.

As I stated in reply to the Deputy's question of the 16th of last month, the claims of residents in County Dublin will be duly considered in connection with the division of any lands acquired in that county.

I take it that the Minister is aware of the land hunger which exists in County Dublin and particularly in North County Dublin. Can I take it that the people on conacre farms in that area who need land so badly will at least get priority of consideration when land becomes available?

Yes. The Land Commission takes into consideration the fact that farmers have to take conacre, because it is an indication that they have not enough scope in their own farms. These things will be taken into consideration when land is being divided.
