Vol. 114 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Queen Victoria Statue.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he will state (a) the amount of time spent to date in removing the statue of Queen Victoria from in front of Leinster House and preparing the site; (b) the cost of the work to date; (c) when he expects the operation to be completed, (d) what it is intended to put on the site, and (e) the total estimated cost of all work in connection with the removal of the statue and the laying out of the ground.

(a) The time spent in removing the Queen Victoria monument was approximately eight weeks: work subsequently on preparing the site has occupied nine weeks to date; (b) the cost of the work to date is about £1,600; (c) it is expected that the entire scheme will be completed about the end of August, 1949; (d) the intention is to provide parking facilities for 64 cars with a central paved approach feature affording facilities for the display of flowers or flowering shrubs; (e) the total estimated cost is £6,500.

Is there any truth in the statement that the City of Windsor, Ontario, Canada has been anxious to buy this statue?
