Vol. 114 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sligo Coal Shortage.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that there is a serious shortage of coal in Sligo town and the non-turf areas of Sligo, and that the dredger at present in Sligo Harbour may have to cease operating owing to the shortage of fuel; and, if so, whether he intends to take any action to relieve the position.

It has not been brought to my notice that there is a shortage of coal in Sligo. If coal is short in that area, it is in the power of fuel merchants to remedy the situation, as Fuel Importers, Limited, have stocks available for sale.

I am informed that there is little likelihood that the dredger in Sligo Harbour will cease operating there owing to lack of coal.
