Vol. 115 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Wood Fuel.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that certain sections of the community are being charged at the rate of 5d. per stone or £3 6s. 8d. per ton for wood fuel sold in small quantities and that this fuel is purchasable by the vendors at £1 0s. 0d. per ton; and, if so, whether he will consider taking such steps as are necessary to remedy this abuse.

A complaint was made to me over two months ago that 6d. per stone was being charged for firewood in Dublin but I was not given the particulars for which I asked to enable me to have the matter investigated. The fact that high charges persist was not brought to my notice until I received the Deputy's question and if he will give me the particulars at his disposal a full investigation will be made immediately so that I can consider what remedial measures are necessary.
