Vol. 115 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sale of Imported Coal.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will now consider a prohibition on the sale of imported coal in turf-producing areas.

The question of securing a satisfactory market for turf was examined recently in my Department and I am satisfied that, if good quality turf is offered to the public, producers should not have anything to fear from the competition of imported coal at present prices. I understand that there was no significant quantity of hand-won turf left on producers' hands this season. I am not prepared, therefore, to take any steps to prohibit the sale of coal in turf-producing areas.
