Vol. 115 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition and Division of Mayo Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that a farm known as the Racecourse, Claremorris, County Mayo, has been let go derelict; and, if so, whether he will take steps to have this land taken over and redistributed locally amongst small farmers whose holdings do not exceed £10 valuation.

The position in this case, as far as I know, has not altered since my reply of 2nd June, 1948, to a similar question by the Deputy. Am I to understand that the Deputy has information now that the townspeople wish to surrender the field in question?

In this case the whole trouble seems to be that some of the original trustees have died and the people of the locality do not know who are now the trustees of this park. Would the Minister be able to clear this matter up as soon as he can and appoint new trustees, if there are vacancies?

I think there are only four of the original trustees alive. There are some legal difficulties about appointing new trustees. I hope to set that right, however, in the very near future, but it will require legislation.
