Vol. 115 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - State Servants' Pensions.

Mr. Byrne

asked the Minister for Finance if he is now in a position to state what increases, if any, he proposes to give to retired officials and former workers of the State who retired on allowances and pensions not sufficient to provide their present requirements.

It is intended that increases in pension should be granted, within certain limits, to State officials and employees who retired in the normal course before the 1st July, 1940 I am not yet in a position to indicate the basis on which increases will be paid.

Mr. Byrne

Would that rule apply to municipal employees? Will it be extended?

I am dealing with civil servants, but I include teachers and Guards, of course.
