Vol. 115 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Gaeltarra Éireann Certificates.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that the British Board of Trade will not grant import licences to British firms anxious to purchase hand-knitted gloves in this country unless their application is accompanied by a certificate of manufacture from Gaeltarra Éireann; that Gaeltarra Éireann will only issue such certificates in respect of their own products and thus hold the monopoly of the export of hand-knitted gloves; and as the development of this native industry would absorb a large number of those formerly employed in the homespun industry, if he will instruct Gaeltarra Éireann to issue the necessary certificates to other Irish manufacturers.

I am not aware that the position is as stated by the Deputy. Representations in regard to any difficulties of the kind referred to that may exist are for consideration by the Department of Industry and Commerce.
