Vol. 116 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Registered Unemployed.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether he will state, in respect of the period since the end of the Employment Periods, 1948, the total number of registered unemployed persons (a) who were offered work through his Department; (b) who accepted such offers, and (c) the monthly average number of registrants over the same period.

With regard to (a) of the question I would refer the Deputy to my reply of the 31st ultimo to a question asked by him relating to the same subject. With regard to (b) and (c), information in the exact form sought by the Deputy is not available. The following particulars may, however, meet his requirements. The number of offers of employment through the local offices of my Department accepted during the period from the 1st November, 1948, to the 21st May, 1949, was approximately 31,000. The weekly average number of persons registered at those offices during the same period, derived from statistics in respect of the Saturday of each week of the period, was 75,097.
