Vol. 116 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shortage of Baby Food.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that there is a grave shortage of baby food, and particularly rusks; if he can state the cause; and, further, if this is an item in the manufacture of which producers would be compelled to use white flour at the increased price.

I am not aware of any such shortage. Several varieties of baby food are available, some of which have a wheaten flour base and others have not. Where wheaten flour is used as an ingredient, the manufacturer would be required to use 75 per cent. extraction flour on the same basis as all other manufacturers.

Does that mean that the white flour would be used in this case?

Seventy-five per cent. extraction.

That is the dear flour?

Yes, relatively—the unsubsidised flour.
