Vol. 117 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Electricity Supplies.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will indicate when work will commence on rural electrification in (a) Baltimore, and (b) Lisavard.

I am informed that the question of supplying the Baltimore area under the rural electrification scheme has recently been considered by the Electricity Supply Board, but the returns were not sufficiently high to warrant the selection of the area for development.

I am also informed that the Lisavard area is at present under investigation and that it is as yet too early to say whether the development of the area can proceed.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in view of the peculiar position of Castletownberehaven from the point of view of electrification, he will consider having a special grant made available to the Electricity Supply Board to enable them to electrify the town at the earliest possible date.

There are no moneys available out of which a grant could be made to the Electricity Supply Board for the purpose mentioned in the Deputy's question.

Would the Minister not consider introducing an enabling Bill to give him the authority to do so?

Certainly not at present.
