Vol. 118 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cromane (County Kerry) Fishing Facilities.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware of the urgent necessity for erecting a pier at Cromane, County Kerry; and, if so, whether, in view of the fact that the Cromane fishermen have no landing or hauling facilities, he will make available the necessary grant for the carrying through of the scheme.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that the salmon hauling grounds at Cromane, County Kerry, are strewn with boulders, thus making it impossible for local fishermen to operate or haul their nets properly; and, if so, whether he will sanction a grant to enable the local authority to remove these boulders.

With your permission a Chinn Comhairle, I propose to take Questions 18 and 19 together. The Kerry County Council has requested State grants in respect of the works referred to in the Deputy's questions. The council has been asked to furnish a preliminary drawing showing in outline the type of pier it recommends, with an estimate of the cost of both works and also to state what proportion of the total cost it would be prepared to contribute. On receipt of these particulars the question as to whether a State grant towards the cost of the works would be justified in the fishery interest will be considered, without delay.
