Vol. 118 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pensions of Dublin Metropolitan Police Widows.

asked the Minister for Finance whether widows of Dublin Metropolitan Police pensioners are included in the categories of persons to whom it is intended to grant increases under the Pensions (Increase) Bill; and, if not, whether he will take all necessary steps to have them included.

Widows of Dublin Metropolitan Police pensioners who retired in the normal course will receive increases in their pensions. Provision for the increases will be made by an amendment to the Garda Síochána (Pensions) Orders in the case of members of the Dublin Metropolitan Police force who became members of the Garda Síochána on the amalgamation of the two forces by the Police Forces Amalgamation Act, 1925. It is necessary to amend these Orders so as to apply the increases to widows' pensions which may be awarded in future as well as to those already being paid. In the case of Dublin Metropolitan Police personnel who retired before the amalgamation of the Dublin Metropolitan Police and the Garda Síochána, the necessary provision will be made in the Pensions (Increase) Bill.
