Vol. 118 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - South Kerry Works.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that proposals for the carrying through of certain important works in South Kerry were inadvertently omitted from the list submitted to his Department under the Local Authorities (Works) Act, 1949, and whether he will have the matter investigated with a view to having these works listed for immediate consideration and the appropriate grants allocated for the carrying through of them.

I am not aware that there was an inadvertent omission. Schemes costing some £75,000 were tentatively listed pending the passing of the Act. The local authority were then asked to put forward the schemes that could be carried out in the present financial year. Works to the value of £53,817 were put forward in response to this request and were sanctioned. The local authority have now proposed carrying out further works in the current financial year and these proposals are being considered.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that I am not referring to new proposals only? I am referring to proposals that were originally put forward when the first lists were submitted but which were inadvertently omitted from the list submitted to the Department. These proposals should not be regarded as new proposals and they should have been in the lists that were considered by the Department.

If the Kerry County Council send up another group of schemes, there is nothing to prevent their putting up these schemes for the consideration of the Minister for the 100 per cent. grant.
