Vol. 118 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Proposed Council of Education.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state whether his attention has been drawn to a recent Press comment which suggests that the delay in setting up the proposed council of education is in some way due to his officials being unwilling to see such a council established; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have seen it suggested in an editorial in the Irish Independent of the 25th November that further delay on my part in establishing a council of educations may create the impression that my “Officials are not at all anxious to see such a council established.”

Only a very tortuous process of deduction could bring anyone into the neighbourhood of such a conclusion.

The suggestion is false as well as being fantastic.

In the discharge of the Ministerial function I have always received, and am receiving, from the officials of the Department in every detail of my work, and in my approach to it, the most spontaneous loyalty and untiring support.
