Vol. 118 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Linen Factory for Bandon.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, in view of the recent statement by the Taoiseach that money will be made available for the establishment of certain industries, he will consider establishing a linen factory in Bandon, County Cork, which is ideally situated to receive supplies of raw materials from South-West Cork where flax is grown extensively.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether he has received representations regarding the establishment of a linen or flax-spinning industry; and, if so, whether he will consider Bandon, County Cork, as a site, in view of the fact that the people of South Cork, where a considerable amount of flax is grown, are prepared to provide a certain amount of capital for such a project and are anxious that a factory should be built in Bandon.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 38 and 39 together. The question whether a flax-spinning industry could be successfully established in this country is at present under investigation by the Industrial Development Authority.
