Vol. 118 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Queuing at Dublin Cinemas.

asked the Minister for Health whether he is aware of the danger to the health of the citizens of Dublin caused by the failure of cinema proprietors to provide waiting rooms for citizens awaiting admission to the cinemas, and whether he will take the matter up with the appropriate authorities so that the harmful and objectionable system of theatre queues in the city streets may be ended at once.

I am not aware that the failure of cinema proprietors to provide waiting rooms for citizens awaiting admission to cinemas constitutes, in itself, a danger to the health of the citizens, since the public is under no compulsion to attend cinemas and the decision on the part of any individual to join a cinema queue is a purely voluntary act. In the circumstances, I do not feel called upon to take any action in the matter.
