Vol. 118 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Harness Leather.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that harness-makers are finding it difficult to obtain suitable harness leather of Irish manufacture, and, if so, whether he will take action to have supplies made available to the trade.

My information is that, some months ago, the manufacturers of harness leathers were forced to reduce their output due to a fallingoff in supplies of native hides, but I understand that the rate of production has recently been increased very substantially and that all reasonable requirements of the trade are being satisfied. If the Deputy will supply me with particulars of the traders who are not obtaining sufficient harness leather, to meet the needs of their customers, I will have inquiries made into the matter.
