Vol. 118 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Scheme for Ballyporeen.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that housing conditions in Ballyporeen, Cahir, County Tipperary, are very bad, and if he will state whether he has received from Tipperary (South Riding) County Council for his sanction a scheme for new houses in Ballyporeen and, if so, what the present position is.

According to a survey carried out in 1948 by the local authority the housing needs of the village of Ballyporeen are four houses. A housing site in the village was acquired compulsorily by the Tipperary (South Riding) County Council, and I understand that plans for a scheme of four houses are being prepared by the council's architect. No plans for the scheme, however, have yet been submitted by the council for approval.

The needs of the area adjoining Ballyporeen village are estimated by the council at 20 houses. Sites for these houses have been acquired and plans approved and the council have, I understand, received tenders for the erection of ten of the houses.
