Separate figures of the number of the members of the National Health Insurance Society who in any particular year were engaged solely or mainly in agricultural employment are not available. I would, however, refer the Deputy to paragraph 26 of "The Trend of Employment and Unemployment" for 1947-48 in which figures of employment in agriculture are given in respect of the 1st June, 1947, and the 1st June, 1948, the figures being compiled from statistics collected annually by the Gardaí Síochána. Figures for 1949 have not yet reached my Department.
