Vol. 119 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Recognition of F.C.A. Services.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he is aware that during the description broadcast by Radio Éireann of the recent commemoration of the Soloheadbeag ambush, no mention was made of the fact that the guard of honour which was inspected by the President was composed of members of the F.C.A.; and, if so, whether he will take steps to ensure that due recognition is given in future to the services rendered by this force.

As I stated in my reply to the debate on the Estimate for Wireless Broadcasting last July, I do not interfere with the Radio Éireann officials who select and edit news items for broadcasting.

I understand, however, that the F.C.A. was mentioned in the Radio Éireann description of the commemoration ceremonies at Soloheadbeag, but Deputies will appreciate that it is not possible to give all the details in reports of this kind.

There may have been many references to the F.C.A. in the Radio Éireann bulletins and during the past six months three special features were devoted to F.C.A. activities.
