Vol. 119 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sittings of Court of Referees.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether he is aware that Galway City is unsuitable for the attendance of unemployment assistance applicants resident in Connemara whose cases are referred to the Court of Referees, and that, generally, such cases are decided in the absence of the applicants; and, if so, whether he will arrange to have sittings of the court held in more convenient places.

Since the Unemployment Assistance Acts came into operation, questions referred to a Court of Referees in respect of applications for unemployment assistance made by residents of Connemara have been considered by Galway Court of Referees. Taking into account transport facilities and other relevant factors, I think that Galway is the most convenient centre for the area in question.
