Vol. 119 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Corporation Housing Loans.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state whether it is the Government's intention to underwrite future Dublin Corporation housing loans; and, if not, whether he will state in what manner the Government intends having made available the corporation's immediate and future financial requirements for the housing programme.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to a question by Deputy Con Lehane on the 1st instant, in which I pointed out that the Government has repeatedly given assurances that financial difficulties will not be permitted to hinder the provision of houses as long as the need remains and stated that all steps necessary to ensure continuity of operations will be taken. The Deputy is no doubt aware that for the financing of the current year's housing operations, the Government has already effectively intervened to secure for the corporation a loan on more favourable terms and of twice the amount that they would otherwise have obtained. The means which will be adopted to meet the future financial requirements of the corporation for housing purposes will depend on the proposals to be made by the corporation and on the circumstances prevailing as and when such further financial accommodation is needed.
