Vol. 119 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Eggs.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is yet in a position to announce the price egg producers may expect to receive in 1951; and, if not, if he will state whether any discussion has taken place with the British Government on this subject or when such discussion may take place.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to him on 15th February last. I am not yet in a position to announce egg producers' price for 1951, but I expect to discuss the matter with the British Ministry of Food in the very near future.

Am I to take it, then, that no approaches have yet been made to the British Ministry with a view to opening up discussions in this matter?

The Deputy is no doubt aware that a general election took place recently in Great Britain. Consequent upon that election the existing Minister of Food was transferred by the Prime Minister to another office. A new Minister of Food has been appointed. I expect to have discussions with the new Minister of Food in the very near future.

Is it expected that these discussions will be on ministerial level?
