Vol. 119 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Reafforestation Survey.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is yet in a position to state when a survey of South Cork will be made with a view to possible reafforestation.

A survey of the entire country has been carried out county by county but I regret I am not in a position to give the figures for South Cork. The survey revealed that the area more suitable for forestry than for agriculture in the whole County of Cork is 92,430 acres. This figure is the area of suitable plantable land and is not to be understood as being in the hands of the Department.

As the Minister's reply deals with County Cork as a single unit, if I give him the names of various districts in South Cork suitable for afforestation, will he have an early survey made?
