I move:—
That a supplementary sum not exceeding £62,000 be granted to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending the 31st day of March, 1950, for the increase of the Grant to Local Authorities in Relief of Rates on Agricultural Land (No. 35 of 1925, No. 28 of 1931, No. 23 of 1939; and No. 20 of 1948).
This supplementary has become necessary because it was impossible, when the Estimate was being drawn up, to forecast what increase would take place in local rates in the year 1949-50 as opposed to the year 1948-49. A certain percentage increase was allowed for, but this was not sufficient. The payments here are tied under the Act to the rates and we have no control over this matter.
