Vol. 119 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that although the Electricity Supply Board have canvassed householders in the Cloghran-Kinsealy district, these householders have been informed that a rural electrification scheme will not be permitted in the area because of proximity to Collinstown Airport, and whether he will take steps to have an alternative method of connecting current with such places devised.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that the Cloghran-Kinsealy district has been canvassed under the rural electrification scheme and that it was intimated to certain householders in the locality that, owing to the proximity of the airport, supply could not be brought to their houses by means of overhead lines. These householders are very close to the airport and the erection of overhead lines would constitute a hazard for aircraft landing or taking off from the airport. The Electricity Supply Board inform me that alternative methods of supplying these houses are being investigated.
