Vol. 120 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Correspondence in Irish.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will explain how a letter written in Irish and addressed to his Department in February, 1950, by Mícheál Ó hEibheain of Each Leim, Fodh Dhubh, Beal an Atha, Co. Muigheo, with reference to the issue of a ration book, was acknowledged on the 24th February in the English language, and whether he will take steps to ensure that future correspondence addressed to his Department in the Irish language is acknowledged and replied to in that language.

It is the normal practice of my Department to reply in Irish to communications received in Irish. The communication in English to which the Deputy refers was sent out by mistake. I have given instructions that care is to be exercised to avoid such a mistake in future.
