Vol. 120 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Telephone Kiosks.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state (1) the places in Cork City and suburbs in respect of which applications for the provision of telephone kiosks have been received by his Department; (2) the proposed order of priority in the erection of these kiosks; (3) when work will commence; and (4) when it is anticipated that work will be completed.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to Deputy P. McGrath on the 21st instant concerning his request for the erection of a telephone kiosk at South Jetties, Cork.

The survey which is at present being carried out in Cork City and suburbs with the object of selecting those districts where the provision of telephone kiosks is most urgently required will cover all areas not at present served.

Will the Minister give any indication of when that work will be undertaken and completed?

Consultations take place between the Cork City engineers and engineers of my Department. They make the arrangements. Outside of Cork City, when a survey is completed we shall communicate with the Deputy. Until I receive a full report I am not in a position to give any further information. I would point out that in 1949 we erected eight telephone kiosks in Cork City.
