Vol. 120 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Housing.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the reasons for the delay in providing houses in Newtownpark, Stillorgan, and Shankill, County Dublin.

I am not aware that there is any undue delay in the formulation of schemes for the areas mentioned. As indicated in previous replies the Dublin County Council are making satisfactory progress with their housing programme, and are proceeding as expeditiously as possible with the erection of houses throughout the county. The present position in the three districts referred to is as follows:—

(1) Newtownpark. — Arrangements are being made for the compulsory acquisition of a site to accommodate approximately 50 houses. Negotiations are also in progress by Dún Laoghaire Corporation for the acquisition of a site at Newtownpark.

(2) Stillorgan. — Arrangements are being made for the compulsory acquisition of a site to accommodate a scheme that will satisfy the housing needs of the area.

(3) Shankill.—Six houses have been completed and tenders have been invited for a scheme of 28 houses in this district. A survey of the remaining needs of the area is being arranged, and the necessary steps for the acquisition of any further sites required will be taken when the results of the survey are available.
