Vol. 120 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Benefit Application.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state why the holder of Book No. 9572, Classification No. L485, did not receive unemployment benefit for seven weeks.

Payment of unemployment benefit was held up in this case for the reason that evidence came to light which suggested that on a previous claim the man concerned had obtained unemployment benefit to which he was not properly entitled. On completion of the necessary inquiries a disallowance was imposed with retrospective effect and the claimant became liable to repay the sum which he had overdrawn. The current claim has been released for payment subject to the recovery by deduction of the amount the claimant was held liable to repay.
