The amount deposited in the Central Bank as the counterpart of American Loan Aid up to 31st March, 1950, was £21,750,245, of which £8,600,000 was transferred to the fund referred to by the Deputy. The fund held at 31st March, 1950, between investments—mainly short-term—and cash, £8,600,744. As the amount and nature of American Aid for Ireland in 1950-51 has not yet been determined, it is not possible to give an estimate of counterpart deposits in the current financial year.
