Vol. 120 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fermoy Flooding.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give immediate sanction to the county council's proposals under the Local Authorities (Works) Act, 1949, for the removal of the islands below Fermoy Bridge which are responsible for severe flooding of the town, particularly in view of the grave unemployment problem in the town, and the anxiety of both the county council and the urban authority in this matter.

The scheme to which the Deputy refers is one that will require inspection by an engineering officer of my department. This will be arranged as soon as possible, and a decision will then be communicated to the county council.
