Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Reclamation Scheme.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will give the number of outdoor staff employed on the land reclamation scheme and the total cost so far incurred on this service in salaries, wages, etc., and also in acquiring and equipping offices in the country; and, furthermore, if he will state where these offices are situated.

The outdoor staff (excluding casual labour) employed on the land rehabilitation project numbers 284. The cost of the service in salaries, wages, etc., was £82,780 in 1949-50, and so far £5,350 in 1950-51. The total cost of acquiring and equipping offices in the country was £2,507. The offices are situated in Ballina, Carlow, Carrick-on-Shannon, Castlebar, Claremorris, Clonakilty, Clonmel, Cork, Donegal, Dublin, Dundalk, Dungarvan, Ennis. Enniscorthy, Fermoy, Galway, Kilkenny, Killarney, Limerick, Longford, Loughrea, Mallow, Milford, Monaghan, Nenagh, Raphoe, Roscommon, Sligo, Tipperary, Thurles, Tralee, Tuam, Virginia, Wexford, Wicklow.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the sum to date expended on the purchase of machinery under the land reclamation scheme and where this machinery is at present working.

The total sum expended to date under the land project on the purchase of machinery is £133,788. Machines purchased by the Department are now engaged in drainage and reclamation work in Counties Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Louth, Monaghan, Mayo and Sligo.
