Vol. 120 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tullamore Council Employees' Wages.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether it is a fact that the road sweepers and street cleaners employed by Tullamore Urban District Council applied for an increase of 10/- per week in their wages; if he will say what proposal was received from the county manager and what was approved by his Department.

I understand that the men referred to applied recently for an increase of 10/- a week in their wages and that they have been granted an increase of 2/- a week as from the 7th instant. This proposal is covered by the general sanction given to local authorities as regards variations in wage rates of certain classes of employees and my specific sanction to the proposal was not therefore required or sought.
