Vol. 120 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Swords Council Cottages.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state why the council cottages in Swords were assessed £2 0s. 0d. higher in valuation than other council houses in County Dublin, and whether he will have them revalued.

Other county council cottages in County Dublin similar to those in Swords have been valued at the same figure. If the occupiers or the county council think that the valuations are too high it is open to them to apply before the 15th June for a revision of the valuations for the rating year 1951-52.

Is the Minister aware that houses in a housing scheme that is a good deal nearer to Dublin than the Swords scheme have been valued at £2 less, and that this higher valuation is a big hardship on the people in the Swords area because of the fact that their Electricity Supply Board charges are based on the valuation of their houses? I cannot understand why a difference should be made in the valuations as between Swords and Finglas and Santry, the two latter being nearer to Dublin than Swords.

I know of another estate on which the valuations are much higher. In any event, it is open to those who have a complaint to make application for a revision. I have nothing to do with it.

That is very strange.
